Omega Psi Phi 100th Year Celebration by Sierra Messam ENG 336.002

On November 17, 1911 Omega Psi Phi was founded at Howard University by very distinct men. If you notice the year that was 100 years ago and the Fraternity Omega Psi Phi is still going strong in most Universities and Colleges in the United States and some overseas. On November 17, 2011 the men of Omega Psi Phi at Frostburg State University there 100th anniversary in the Lane Center Armah at 9:11 p.m. There are five Omega's here also known as "Ques." The room will filled with chairs with a stage set up in the front. Many students were attendance for this event. The men entered the room singing a chant dressed in business attire, but wearing "Gold Boots"which is every Ques signature shoe. As they marched in the students were clapping congratulating for the long way this Fraternity has come. They were introduced by a professor at Frostburg State University, Dr. Wynder who is also a member of the Omege Psi Phi Fraternity. As the show proceeded they started with the history of their Fraternity. Who it was founded by, when, where, and the principle they were built on. After that segment they proceeded with a step dedicated to the founders of the Frat. This includes stomping, singing, and vigorous hand movements all at the same time. When that was finished they proceeded to give the history of the Omegas at Frostburg State University. After being gone for 15 years from the campus, three students, Fredrick Ramsey, Markus Clennon, nd Kevin Matthews decided to reach out to the necessary persons to get the chapter started back at school. They succeeded and in the Spring of 2010 the Ques were back on campus. Since then another line was brought in Fall of 2011 and two more men were added to the Frat Rashad and Sleepy. This event here was special to me because my father is apart of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and he is very active. They are known for their brotherhood and community service, which is more than just the typical stepping they can be associated with. At the end of the show they presented all the Ques who are famous such as, comedian Bill Cosby, Basketball legend Michael Jordan, Host and Actor Steve Harvey, Radio Personality Ricky Smiley, and 106 and Park host Terrance J just to name a few. These men are very successful and are bonded by a brotherhood whether they all know each other or not. The show ended with a final singing and step which was very powerful and strong. This can become very tiring but the men did not slack of at all. You can tell they are proud to be part of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Happy 100th Anniversary!
