A Haunting in Lane

Halloween is a holiday that allows people to be someone else for a night. While celebrating Halloween people get to enjoy scary movies, candy apples, haunted houses and dressing up. Frostburg State University had provided two student events this Halloween a dance and a haunted house. These events took place in the Lane center on campus on Thursday evening. The haunted house was sponsored by the UPC.

As students walked quickly through this haunted house you could hear gasps and screams coming from them. The haunted house was very dark and spooky. The beginning of the haunted house tour started off by following the head person into a pitch black tunnel. After you walked through the tunnel you walk into different rooms with different scary element such as people in masks to people dressed up in a clown outfit. This haunted house was short but also had unexpected things pop out at you at any given time. It was a good haunted house for what little space it had. Cate Ward a student of Frostburg State University said shortly after walking fast out of the haunted house “I have never been to one of the events on campus, but It was definitely interesting and worth coming to check out”.

Even though it was a short trip through the house it was still a nice activity to enjoy during the Halloween festivities. There was a line that was set up in front of the entrance where students would wait to enter the haunted house. This haunted house may just look like a blow up house in the beginning but by the amount of screams and creepy music that could be heard it seemed to tell a different story. As Kelsey Clark a student at Frostburg State waited in line before entering she said “I’m scared just from hearing all the screams inside”. Standing in front of the entrance all you could see was a dark hallway like scene that had no light shining through there. People had no idea what they were headed into after the tunnel hallway because it was so dark in there. They were very surprised when things started jumping out of the darkness. This is one of the haunted house’s achievements by taking the element of surprise to scare the students that walked throughout the house.

This haunted house was pretty good for the resources and space they had. “Maybe next years will be even better” said Katherine Stengel after walking through the haunted house. The UPC did a great job of decorating and getting everything together. They also did a great job at getting students to come visit the haunted house by advertising all over lane, and having flyers everywhere on campus. Maybe next year’s haunted house will take place in a bigger room or maybe be in different rooms in the lane center for a scarier effect. This haunted house allowed Students to have a good time and get a little spooked right before Halloween.
