As homecoming weekend quickly approaches, Frostburg State University is prepared and excited for the events to come. During Frostburg’s fun filled weekend, students will gather to cheer on the Bobcats in their football game, and party the night away in hopes of a victory. Also happening this weekend is the Guy Torry comedy show. On the evening of October 21, 2011, students from all over campus came out to support actor and comedian Guy Torry. Torry excited to be here, took the stage around 9:00 p.m, ready to entertain and have everyone laughing, Torry started off his show talking about his lonely drive through the Frostburg mountains. He jokingly talked about the weather, and how cold it was, the racial differences, and how it was different form living in Los Angeles. As the students laughed hysterically, I knew that this would be a great outcome.

Overall, Torry’s show was nothing less than amazing. With a gym full of students, you could tell by the laughs on everyone’s face, that Torry made an impact. During his stand up comedy, he used participants, and pointed specific people out to joke on. As the show went on, he joked about other college issues, partying, relationships, and many other things that we college students could relate to. He also gave advice about how to be successful in the industry, and in life period. Very engaged, each student also got the chance to ask Torry some questions after the show. Some students asked him how did he get started as a comedian, and what advice would he have for anyone trying to make it in the same industry. Seeing how everyone was engaged, I decided to interview a few fellow students to find out how much they were enjoying the show.

Sitting in front of me was junior, Jasmine Owens. I asked Jasmine, “How are you liking the show so far?” She replied, “I think it’s very good so far. It’s definitely something new that has been brought to Frostburg. This has probably been my favorite experience during my college years.” I could really tell that Owens was enjoying the show. During our interview, we had to keep taking brakes due to hysterical laughter. Sitting next to Owens, was Aisha Thomas. Thomas is also a junior at Frostburg State University, so I decided to ask her the same thing. Thomas stated, “This is a different type of event for her. She has never been to anything like this comedy show, and it seems a little to vulgar.” You could tell my Thomas’s facial expressions, that there were moments she felt uncomfortable.

As the show went on, he kept giving advice about how if something is your dream, then you should stick to it until you reach your goals. He stated, “If there is something that you want to be in life, then claim it.” I thought this was a great message to deliver to college students trying to pursue a career. Overall I think everyone enjoyed themselves, and I hope Torry decides to make future appearances.
