"A Woman About Her Business"

“A Woman About Her Business" by Arrielle Smallwood-Evans Engl 336.002

Multi-talented, passionate, and full of confidence are just a few words that come to mind when talking about Jasmine Evelyn Vaughn. She has over come so much in her life and all that she’s gone through has ultimately made her stronger. At first glance sitting down with Jasmine you see a well dress diva that is clearly beyond her years. My first thought was that she is so mature for a 20 year old and I would soon learn more about the sassy and vibrant Ms. Jasmine.

Jasmine Evelyn Vaughn was born April 19, 1991 in the always busy city of Baltimore, Maryland and attended Northern High School. Her father is deceased and when asked about her mother she states “My favorite person in the world is my mom. We didn’t always have a good relationship; we definitely came a long way.” Jasmine’s face lit up when mentioning her 18 year old little sister on her dad’s side named Lashawn whom she just met recently. Lashawn was adopted by another family when they both were young, but that didn’t stop Jasmine from building a bond with her long lost sister who she is very close to today. Jasmine states, “Meeting my sister was the best thing ever! They changed her name to Shavonda when she was adopted, but I still call her Lashawn. Looking at her I saw myself, she’s the splitting image of me.” She loves the color sea green, she loves dogs, swimming, and her favorite food is tacos. If she could visit any place in the world she would go to Tokyo, Japan the fashion capital of the world because she loves fashion. She is known for her addiction to shoes and not just any shoe all kinds of shoes especially crazy looking wedges. The most intriguing and inspiring thing about Jasmine is that she owns her own business in doing make-up and wardrobe styling for women of all races, shapes and sizes. She’s looking forward to her work being in different fashion magazines. On her website http://www.modelmayhem.com/ you will find some of Jasmine’s artistry as well as rave reviews from different people that admire her work.

Currently a junior attending Frostburg State University, Jasmine majors in English and minors in Sociology. Like most English majors she despises the subject Math and would much rather write a paper than solve an extremely difficult problem. Though she got into over 30 schools she chose Frostburg because here is where she attended the regional math and science center at a young age. Furthermore, she is her family’s first generation college attendee so she knew she had to follow her dreams. During her down time she loves to sleep. Napping during the day is what rejuvenates her to be alert throughout the day. She also loves to sing, play the guitar, and write poetry. When asked about her poetry she states “Poetry gives me a peace of mind, I stay to myself a lot so poetry helps me get out feelings and I find it to be sensual.” Though single she is a lesbian and waiting on the right person to come along. People may call her flashy, but she just considers herself to be a real straight up person and accounts their opinions to being envy. Known as the odd ball she broke barriers for plus size women when she tried out for Frostburg’s fashion show organization entitled Paparazzi Perfect. With her confidence the judges knew they needed her on their team. It’s no surprise that Jasmine is a model considering her role model is well known super model Tyra Banks.

Jasmine Vaughn is more than the flashy woman people may see. Equip with so many talents this young woman is bound to go far. She’s very passionate about building the confidence of all women through her own actions as well as making them feel beautiful with her make up skills. When asked to describe herself in one sentence she states “I am the epitome of a woman. I don’t take no for an answer because success is my only option.”
