Imani-Kai was born on October 28, 1991. She is from Bowie in PG County Maryland. “Also known as pretty girl county!” she exclaimed, letting her energetic personality show. At the young age of 10 Imani-Kai joined her church’s dance group. “I realized I had natural ability,” stated Imani. This is when she decided to explore other similar groups such as a hip hop group and then ballet. She soon explored the modeling industry until she was 18 years old. She was going to move to NY to pursue her modeling, but her mother wanted her to get a college degree first, so that she would have something to fall back on. Thus she is now at Frostburg State studying mass communication.
“I wanna' be a fashion journalist,” Imani said when asked what she will use her degree to do. She hopes that she will get a job with something in journalism and public relations. She has already started her own blog called FashionHippo.com. As for now she is working at American Apparel in Annapolis.
As for Imani-Kai’s personal life, she has a boy-friend named Austin; they will have been together for 8 months on October 1. Her friends would describe her as shy, creative, and optimistic. She drives a Volkswagen Beetle that is cream colored. For fun she likes to get dressed up and go out and dance with friends.
Her inspiration comes from her mom. “She is awesome and very determined,” said Imani. This is because her mom lost her job of 15 years, but she worked her way back up the corporate ladder and is a boss now at a million dollar company. Imani-Kai also has another person who inspires her: Beyonce. She says if there is ever a time where she is feeling down or needs some new inspiration, “I just listen to her music and I feel alive.”
Imani-Kai was asked where she hoped she would be 10 years from now in which she replied “I hope to be an editor of a major fashion publication, or in it.” She also hopes that she will be living in New York. With that she added, “Oh and hopefully my blog will be like huge.” The last question for Imani was: how would you like to be remembered when you are gone? She said, “I just hope that everyone remembers my energy and how nice I was.” So watch out for Imani-Kai you might read one of her articles in Vogue someday, or you might just see her on the cover!
