Not Just for Walking

Relay for Life is an annual event put on by schools and other organizations, in order to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Some people come to walk around the track, some come to enjoy some of the games and contests that are going on, but for a number of students, and even folks in the community, getting a chance to play different sports is what makes their night.

At any given time last night at FSU's Relay for Life event, some type of sport was being plaed on the Field at Bobcat Stadium. On one half of the field, you could "bend it like Beckham" b playing a very competitive pick-up soccer game. On the other half of the field, you could pretend you were Joe Flacco, and play a game of pigskin (football), without worrying about being chased down by an all-pro defensive tackle.

But,let's say your skills aren't so great, and you don't really like competition. Well, you could then join in some of the many groups of people tossing the football around in a triangle, grab a mitt and play the classic game of catch, or you could try the master the art of properly throwing and catching a Frisbee, and ,once you did that, you could then join some of the members of Phi MU Delta in a game of Ultimate Frisbee. Ultimate Frisbee is a sport similar to football, except, you guessed it, you must be able to throw and catch the frisbee in order to advance down the field and score.

Although it was very windy and, towards the end, rainy night, playing sports, as well as some of the other games, made the 2011 Relay For Life event as much fun, as it was inspiring and uplifting
