Question 4 "The Dream Act" : Opinions please!

Today, November 6, 2012, is a very special day for all Americans! Today is the day of the election and we get to see who will be our president for the next four years. While everyone is waiting in line and rushing to the poles, there are many other questions to think about other than the presidential race. Many people have had a hard time with deciding whether or not they agree with Question 4 "The Dream Act". The Dream Act will allow undocumented people (illegal immigrants) to pay in-state tuition as long as they meet the specific qualifications needed under the Act.
Question 4 gave me the perfect opportunity to walk around campus and ask some of the students how they feel about this specific question. I spoke with Senior Victoria Adeoye about Question 4 and she stated, "I believe that undocumented people should be able to pay in-state tuition if they're doing everything they can to earn the opportunity to pay in-state. However, if they are being lazy and not showing effort that they will do what it takes to pay in state, then they need to pay out of state." From the answer received, it looks like this young lady will be voting for the Dream Act.
Shortly after, I ran into another young, first time voter, Freshman Veronica Williams. When I asked about her thoughts on Question 4, she stated, " Everyone should be allowed equal opportunity for in-state tuition. Undocumented people should be allowed the same opportunity as everyone else, it's not fair that they have to pay more, when they just want the same opportunity as everyone else." This would be another vote supporting Question 4.
Finally, I spoke with Senior Maggie Jarrett who felt very strongly about Question 4. She stated, " If they're not paying taxes, they shouldn't be allowed to pay in state tuition. They need to pay out of state because they are not paying taxes here and the taxes help out our school and gives in state students discounts. If they're not paying taxes, they don't need the discount that in-state students get." The students on the Frostburg State University campus are very opinionated and stand by their decisions 100%. We are all anxious to see what the outcome of the election will be. Let's keep in mind that no matter what the outcome is, some people will definitely be affected by this, so make sure you make your voice heard! Go out and vote!!!
