Election Day Coverage on Congress

With today being Election Day, there will be many opinions and statements made about the political standing in the United States. Politics are very important and the decisions of the people are important as well. In this election, the country's major focuses are the president, congress, in-state tuition for the undocumented, legalizing same-sex marriages, and the expansion of gambling.  Deciding who is elected into Congress is just as important as deciding who the president of your country will be. Many are not aware of how the laws made by Congress affect their lives and how important it is to select the appropriate candidate based on their situations. When asked about her view on Congress, Jeannie Getson, a Frostburg local, says, "I think we take care of people who don't take care of themselves instead of taking care of the working people." Getson continues, "They raise our water bill to the point where it is a paycheck, somebody needs to help us!" The voice of the people needs to be heard!

Although Getson was really opinionated about Congress, others held a neutral standpoint when discussing the election and their thoughts. Judy Abbott, a resident of Cumberland, Md. and manager of the Frostburg State University's information desk, says, "I'm glad there's a counterbalance." Abbott proceeds to talk about how the president, Congress, and House of Representatives work together to bring change to our country and she says, "You can't please everyone and they do the best they can." It is great to see that there are people that give credit to the politics that are trying to make a difference whether their decisions impacted their lives positively or negatively.  Maurice Peavy, a senior here at Frostburg State University, simply said, “Congress is important, they help make laws.” Everyone is entitled to their views on politics and they shouldn't be afraid to say what they feel.

Election Day is about giving the citizens a chance to voice their opinions and select the candidate that will do their best to make their country a better place. Whether people have complete knowledge about politics, their opinions do matter.
