Look out Cosmo, here comes Nisha Stephens!

Look out Cosmo, here comes Nisha Stephens!
By Perry Hague ENG 336.001

Nisha Stephens is an average 19 year old junior at Frostburg State University with an above average sense of her ambition. Instead of dreaming of being a model or a movie star, Nisha wants to be a Magazine Writer. Her pro-reading skills and love of clothing make her a perfect candidate for a head writer or editor of Cosmopolitan or Seventeen magazines, her dream job. Nisha’s favorite book, or series of books, is the 50 Shades series.  She takes a deep breath and mentions that the books are interesting, but “you have to read all three books.” Her friend, Flo Kargbo, butts in, “Not everyone can read a whole book in one day like [Nisha]” She smiles in confidence of her compressive abilities. Nisha’s favorite clothing stores are American Eagle and Victoria’s Secret.  Luckily American Eagle has a location in the nearby Country Club Mall, but not a Victoria’s Secret. Nisha is convinced that there “will never be one up here, I feel like.” To make up for the absence of Victoria’s Secret Nisha shops online, a lot. Even her pet peeve is about clothing: when driving anywhere and there is a lonely shoe or sock in the middle of the road, Nisha just cannot get around “who is walking around with one shoe or sock?”

To prepare for her dream job, Nisha is majoring in Mass Communication and, more importantly, minoring in journalism.  Although she hates the audio and visual part of Mass Communication, she is mostly looking forward to the Journalistic Writing class. Also she is prepping herself for the journalistic world by joining Frostburg State’s student newspaper and Collegiate Journalism Society.  This is Nisha’s first year writing for The Bottom Line and is excited to be writing about local news of Frostburg and soon world news.  And as a member of the Collegiate Journalism Society she will “meet other journalists and the connections we make with them,” will “help later in networking and looking for jobs.” Nisha is ready for the journalism world with the preparations she has made for herself.  She just needs to make it through her tough Mass Communication major, and Nisha Stephens will be one of the top applicants for either Cosmopolitan or Seventeen magazines.
