Driven

Driven

By Brandi Jorden, ENGL 336.001

Travis Jones was raised in St. Mary’s County in Southern Maryland. As he describes his hometown he explains, “I am tired of living around farms, and didn’t want to raise my family the same way”. He depicts himself as a well-established goal oriented young adult. Mr. Jones is a very simple man who is driven to become a lawyer and join the National Guard. He states very formally that he “wanted t
o join the National Guard to explore the world and it’s the same reason I picked up the international studies minor”. His life long dreams of joining the National Guard and becoming a lawyer have almost become a reality as he comes closer to graduating spring semester 2013 at Frostburg State University. He states that, “Becoming a lawyer and joining the National Guard has always been my life aspiration”. The benefits to joining the National Guard have compelled Mr. Jones to join. The National Guard will give Mr. Jones 25 grand to pay off his loans and put him through school to become a lawyer. The National Guard will help him through graduate school and ensure his future dream to become a lawyer. His dream starts with graduating from Frostburg State University and getting into The University of Maryland for their graduate program for up and coming lawyers. Then he will join the National Guard because it will help him pay for his future schooling. Mr. Jones is very fortunate because his brother just recently bought a house a block away from The University of Maryland. Fortunately his brother offered for Mr. Jones to stay at his house while he finished graduate school. Joining the National Guard and becoming a lawyer is not only a life long goal. It is also a family tradition since his older brother joined the Navy. Mr. Jones firmly believes in the mission of the National Guard because it believes in making every soldiers primary area of operation their home state, however soldiers are welcomed to protect their nation over seas as well. This will ensure Mr. Jones completes his dream of traveling the world. It is truly inspiring to see Mr. Jones's driven nature to ensure his dream of joining the National Guard and become a lawyer.
