Brandi Jorden: Making Frostburg State a more enjoyable place, one event at a time.

By: Travis Jones, ENGL 336.001

Brandi Jorden is a senior at Frostburg State University. She is a dedicated and adventurous young woman from Calvert County. Brandi came to Frostburg from Patuxent High School and she is currently majoring in event planning and minoring in communications. Brandi aspires to eventually use her knowledge gained at Frostburg to become a wedding planner.

Her dreams of one day becoming a wedding planner are certainly within reach; when Brandi graduates in May 2013 she will already have all of the connections necessary to enter the business. As Brandi puts it, “My Aunt works as a planner for the Bellagio in Las Vegas and is going to try to help me find work after school.” With her family connections, and all of the work experience she is currently gaining from working two jobs for Frostburg State, Brandi should have no problem being noticed as a well-qualified and highly knowledgeable choice for an employer upon graduation.

Brandi’s jobs are both focused on the functions that the Lane University Center provides to the students of Frostburg. She is both a Student Manager where she is in charge of 32 other students-employees, and a Liaison of Marketing for the “Late at Lane” program where she helps to make the campus a more interesting place for the rest of her fellow students. “It takes a creative and flexible mind to actually be a leader at the Lane Center” says Brandi.

As a very dedicated Student Manager, Brandi has accomplished everything from making sure the Lane Center functions correctly, to being in charge of 550 plus people that were attending a fraternity and sorority probate that took place the weekend of 9-01-2012.

As a Liaison of Marketing, Brandi has helped to pursue many programs that should better the life of future Frostburg students. “Late at Lane” is a quickly growing program at Frostburg and according to Brandi will continue to grow. She said that “Late at Lane is a program that Frostburg has put around 40 grand into since I have been working there.” With this money numerous improvements have been made to the building and many programs have been initiated. One of the more interesting programs being started is one that many 21-year old students will find particularly attractive; the university is considering putting a bar on campus in the future, to not only give students of age a place to de-stress, but to also reduce the risk of students considering driving once at a bar off campus. To find other interesting programs that "Late at Lane" is organizing one can go to the website, http://events.frostburg.edu/event/late_at_lane and see the upcoming events for themselves.

With all this in mind, it may seem like Brandi is all work and saves no time to relax herself. But on the contrary, Brandi is very adventurous and enjoys planning and going on trips whenever she has the chance. This past summer she went sky-diving, the summer before that she went white-water rafting, and she is currently planning a trip to Jamaica where she would like to go cliff-diving.

All in all, Brandi is a very friendly, dedicated student that is working in the right direction to achieve her goals.
