Dedicated to his teacher training, Joshua Albowicz

By Emma Sisk, ENGL 336.002

Joshua Richard Albowicz celebrated his birthday on January 27th. At 21 years of age, he is a Health and Physical Education major with a focus on high school teaching at Frostburg State University. "I was origionally supposed to go to Salisbury," he explains "but I didn't get accepted there for the fall semester. I got accepted for the spring semester but I wanted to go to college right away after high school." At Frostburg State, Joshua is a mamber of Sigma Tau Gamma, a national fraternity, which according to the frats webpage promotes "the highest ideals of manhood, brotherhood and citizenship." It was founded in 1920 by veterns of the First World War and Joshua explains that his father served in the military for four years. During this period, when Joshua was between 3-7 years old, he lived in Germany. This experience was not Joshua's reason for choosing Sigma Tau Gamma. "I just wanted something to do and they are a great group of guys," he says. Joshua describes himself as "very sociable and athletic." He enjoys going to the gym and watching UFC as well as playing rugby and video games especially Gears of War II. Joshua also likes to socialize with his friends. Dimes is his favourite place to go on a night out in Frostburg and he recommends going there on Thursdays between 9-11pm because "beers are only a dime."

Joshua has three brothers Jake, 17, John, 8, Joe, 6 and one sister named Jordan who is 13. He gets along well with all his family and adds that "they [his siblings] really look up to me." A tattoo is noticable under the sleeve of his shirt on Josua's upper arm. It reads 'ALBY.' "It's a family thing," he says " a nickname that all the boys in my family have. My dad has it and my brother [Jake] is thinking about getting it too. He is called ALBY." Joshua lives on Center St., Frostburg during the college week and travels to his family home every weekend in Joppatowne, MD. At home he has a part-time job working as an Ophthalmic Technician at Omni Eye Specialists. "I work for one of the best corneal surgeons in Maryland, Dr Ivan Garcia," Joshua says proudly. His job involves running tests on patient's eyes before they see the doctor for diagnosis. While he enjoys the nature of this work he is fully committed to becoming a high school teacher, maybe even a school principal one day, and has no plans to persue a career in Ophthalmology.

Emma, you misspell one word and leave out the necessary apostrophe in another. Also, while it's fine to note that Josh calls it "Dimes," you should include for the uninitiated the formal name of the bar.
