Coming from Ireland, Emma Sisk

By Jordan Baxter, ENGL 336

Emma Sisk was a very interesting person to interview. Emma comes from Countipperary county in Ireland. Back in Ireland, Emma worked in a restaurant called Centra. Emma lives at home with her parents and 3 siblings. Emma has one sister named Bernadette, she is 18 years old. Two brothers David and Patrick. (David 16 Patrick 9). Emma goes on to say that she has a great relationship with all of them. Emma’s siblings miss her very much. “My youngest Brother wears the top of my pajamas to bed and my mom will spray my perfume on it so it smells like me.” She says that she misses her family, but she also says that its okay because, “Facebook and Sypke are great inventions, its a great way to keep in touch with my family and friends.”

I asked if the weather there was much different than here, she replied that it is not as bad as Frostburg. Frostburg has a exchange program with her school back home. Emma is working on a degree in Mass Comm. When asked why she was pursuing this major she replied that she hadn’t initially planned on it, she wanted to be a high school teacher. She said she had a Mass Comm class involved and didn’t want to take it, but she ended up doing much better than she thought and found it interesting. Emma wants to open up her own business someday. She is 21 years of age and enjoys going out with her friends for a night of drinking, or just going to the gym to get in a good workout. Emma attended Presentation Secondary School in Mitchelstown County Cork. While talking to Emma about the differences about school back home and up here she tells me that at home, her and her friends rent a house instead of living at home or in a dorm, and goes to school Monday through Friday and everyone goes home on the weekends. I asked Emma if she liked being on her own all the time now, she replied that "people told me it would be difficult, and I now agree with them."

Emma currently lives in Cambridge Hall on campus. When I asked her if she enjoyed living in the dorms she replied, “Its....alright.” After this semester Emma will be leaving Frostburg State University to go back to Ireland to graduate, and pursue her goals of one day owning her own business.

Jordan, you misspell four words, including the name of Emma's home county. "Two brothers" begins two sentence fragments. You include three comma splices, suggesting you don't know where your sentences begin and end; this is a big problem. "Her and her friends ... goes to school" is doubly ungrammatical. What kind of business does Emma hope to own?
