Rachel Farris- Interview with an English Major

Rachel Farris is originally from Connellsville, PA. “It’s like an hour outside of Pittsburgh, ‘cause no one ever knows where it is.” She is attending Frostburg State University in order to obtain a degree in English, specifically Professional writing. She is also minoring in Psychology.

Once she graduates, Rachel plans to move to a bigger city like San Diego or New York; there she plans to become a publishing editor.  “My goal is to be the editor that helps publish the next Harry Potter series.”

She enjoys reading and her favorites are teen novels and classics; her favorite of course, being the Harry Potter series, which she has read over five times. On a note related to her fascination with the books, she has a tattoo on her foot of the Harry Potter symbol. On the same foot she has a quote tattooed which says “If you only walk long enough.” This is a piece of a quote from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland.” In this scene, Alice is speaking to the cheshire cat and is trying to get directions. Alice explains that she doesn't care where she goes as long as she goes somewhere. To this the cat replies that she will get somewhere if she just walks long enough. She is also currently enjoying the book “The Count of Monte Cristo,” though she hasn’t finished it yet. She is reading it because it was mentioned in the movie “V for Vendetta,” which is also one of her favorites.

As for music, she listens to all types; her favorites are currently The Script and Mayday Parade. She likes different songs from different artists and doesn’t really worry about collecting everything from a single artist. “If I like one song by an artist, it doesn’t mean I have all of them.” Web pages for the artists mentioned can be found by following these links http://www.thescriptmusic.com/us/home/ and http://www.maydayparade.com/.
