Classmate Profile by: Rashad Bass

What does anybody really know about Emily Bennet? Could she be another one of those small town gems whose brilliance has been slightly overlooked by the small scope of society - that is not a question either of us can answer. Born and raised in Cumberland, Maryland, Emily is now a senior attending Frostburg State University majoring in Spanish. She hopes to obtain a certificate in International Studies with a concentration in Latin America. Her love for Spanish was formed about 8 years ago in high school with the help of her teachers. At this point in her life, she has not figured out how she wants to apply her major in the "real world". With her current level of knowledge and understanding she could be anything from a FBI Translator to a tour guide in Spanish Harlem. Though her love for the Spanish culture runs deep, if given the opportunity she would take a trip to Ireland or Scotland - the home of her ancestors. Since she was a little girl she has been infatuated with the two islands, saying, "I have been in love with Ireland since a little girl…I love the green and the cult of it." Here in the United States her support stems from her fiancé, parents, twin brother, sister, and a small variety of pets. Even with the massive amount of time and effort her school work requires, she still manages to make time for her family and maintain a job at a local McDonald’s. Upon starting her job about two years ago she experienced the usual first day jitters. "I was terrified, running around talking to random people.” She very seldom has any real "free time". Every waking moment is spent either studying, working, or the occasional bathroom break. When life allows her to catch a breather she likes to unwind by watching a movie; her favorite movies involve anything from Disney to horror movies. Though normal people get nightmares from watching such things, Emily says, "…I just gotta torture myself.” A slight glimpse into Emily's life is all that's needed.
