FSU Dance Concert

The Fall Dance Concert at Frostburg State University is one of many bright spots in the fall semester every year. The show is directed by Jamie McGreevy and performed by her as well as Frostburg State University’s Dance Company. The Fall Dance Concert was open to the general public and received a lot of compliments about all aspects of the performance.

The performance is a must see and featured great choreography, a formidable music selection, and dancers who performed flawlessly. Christopher Inskeep, a senior at Frostburg State University called the performance, “Incredible.” Many would agree that Jamie McGreevy has worked wonders with the young men and women underneath her leadership and helped them t develop drastically in their performing and choreography.

A testament to McGreevy’s teaching is that she only choreographed 3 out of the 8 performances that made up the concert. I had a moment to talk to Caitlin Moore, a senior biology major and member of FSU’s Dance Company and she referred to McGreevy as, “The most dedicated teacher I have ever seen. She doesn’t let up and forces us to reach our full potential.” Moore choreographed one of the dances, which was considered by many to be the best performance of the night.

James Edmond, an alumni of Frostburg State University, who came back to partake in the homecoming festivities attended the Dance Concert as well and said, “Everything from the lighting, to the music, to the dances just went well together.”

If there is one aspect of college life that is overlooked here at Frostburg State University I would think it is the performances by FSU’s Dance Company. They are well trained, highly focused, and deliver memorable and entertaining performances. The music was well chosen, lights complimented dancers movements, and the choreography kept the audience guessing. More attention needs to be given to the fine arts in general here at Frostburg State University so that students may be more willing to come attend performances or help with the production of them.

After the show was over the biggest concern that cross my mind was how long would Jamie McGreevy be able to keep up the high level of performance next year that FSU’s Dance Company has been known for. This takes into consideration that 7 out of the 13 performers from last nights show were seniors. I am sure that she as well as the young performers she teaches are ready for the challenge.
