Get Ready Grads!

On Monday, March 26, the FSU Bookstore was hopping with the hottest music and great discounts! It was an occasion to celebrate this semester’s upcoming graduation. Students and parents gathered in one of FSU’s most popular spots for The Grad Fair. Graduates got the chance to browse several different tables with merchandise or services and get some great deals on FSU gifts and apparel. Also offered were two raffles, one for extra graduation tickets and another for “The Ultimate Grad Basket”.

Although attendance was sparse at the 11:00 hour, the excitement was still there. Amidst this excitement, filling the bookstore with today’s greatest hits was the local radio station, 94.1 QZK. “So many bargains! So much stuff going on! It is a party!”, exclaimed radio personality Amy Ryan from her position right next to the doorway. Beside Amy, directly across from the doorway to greet the graduates, were the lovely ladies of Juss Chill Hair Salon. While promoting their new business, the stylists offered students coupons to make sure that they look fabulous on the big day. The other various tables were stationed to the left of the entrance. One particularly interesting organization in attendance was the Allegany County One Stop Job Center. Melanie Valentine from the job center explained the range of help that they offer. “We help both job seekers and employers. Some of our services include helping to create cover letters and resumes, the use of our internet in order to complete online applications, and setting up job fairs.” When asked what the biggest growing field is in today’s job market, Melanie responded, “Definitely health care, and especially nursing.”

Students circulated around the tables, collecting job center brochures, trying on class rings, and ordering diploma frames. One of these students, Hannah Deprey-Severance, a senior theater major from Frostburg, MD stopped for a moment to enter a raffle for the extra graduation tickets. She described her favorite part of the Grad Fair, “I was glad to see the job information. The resume-building will be really helpful. I’m also really excited about all of the apparel on sale!” She also talked about her overall experience at Frostburg State University. “The theater department has been wonderful. I got to go to so many conferences. In fact, I just returned from a stage combat workshop. Hats off to the FSU theater department.”

All in all, the FSU Grad Fair provided a lot of helpful information, services, and merchandise to students and their proud parents, and all with an atmosphere of celebration and excitement. It was one-stop-shopping for all graduation needs from class rings to diploma frames and it gave students a great opportunity to look towards the future. Do you still need to order your class ring or diploma frame? Then visit the FSU Bookstore website at http://frostburg.collegestoreonline.com/. Or maybe you would like information that will help you to get that dream job! You can find the Allegany County One Stop Job Center at http://www.dllr.state.md.us/county/alle/.

To conclude, the FSU Bookstore deserves great thanks for all of the wonderful things offered at the Grad Fair. And congratulations to all of the Spring 2012 FSU graduates!
