Meet the Greek: Wydell Bannerman

Meet the Greeks was a good and fun event to attend. There was so many organizations and Greeks that came out to meet and greet. Students were really interacting and asking questions to get more information. The groups had no problem with answering no questions. They kept everyone interested. So many organizations are out there for all kinds of people. You can be an African American, Caucasian, Asian, Heterosexual, Homosexual, anything. So just to name a few Greeks, they had the Alpha Phi Alpha, Sigma Gamma Rho, Que Psi Phi, Kappa Alpha Psi there. Many notice these Greeks and organizations around campus that be hosting many events a lot. So if you are interested in joining something, check it out on the school website www.Frostburg.edu you will more than likely find something that fits you.

Joining a fraternity or sorority organization is a good idea to many. Also to some, it is not a good idea. Joining stuff like this is all up to you. If you want to join something do it. Do not partake in something because of the next. In life it is always good to have your own mindset on ideas, beliefs, and what not. Even though in the end you all will become brothers or/and sisters.

The terms fraternity and sorority are from the Latin words “frater” and “soror” meaning brother and sister respectively. The social organizations are for undergraduate students at colleges and universities in the United States. Typically the Greek letters are with membership from during social activities during the period of time of pledging. You provide academic information also to give the leader in charge some information on you for trying to join. Every organization has its own way of having someone to join.

While at the meet the Greek, I paid close attention to my friend Wydell Bannerman. He is in the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He is really such a nice, cool and laid back type of guy. Seeing him, others will think he is shy or timid. Once you get to meet him he does not turn out to be how many expect. While on line pledging, they gave Wydell the nickname “ Mansa Musa.” Hearing that name you would not know what it means. So as we were talking, he told me what it means. It means “king of kings.” He earned that name while on line. The name fits him well he says. Also he mentioned how “me and my brothers are very hard working. We love doing service because we all are gentleman.” All of that is true because I have witnessed much from them around campus.

So after this event, students around campus will really look forward into joining some of the organizations and Greeks. This was a good way to reach out to inform those who may have had no interest. So now they will have some more insight on if they should join or not.
