Question 6 Election Coverage

Question 6 Election Coverage

Scott Spector, a senior at Frostburg State University, is a native of Carroll County, M.d. In between studying for his upcoming Biology exam, he takes time to tell me his thoughts on Questions 6. Spector decided to not to vote in this year’s Election because he felt “My vote would not make a difference.” Spector had no problem explaining that he is for Question 6 because of his Jewish background. He states “I completely agree with homosexual marriage, but I don’t think that a church should be forced to marry someone if it is against their beliefs. Don’t get me wrong though, I am as straight as it gets.”
Spector and his family are not the average Jewish family. “We are reformed Jewish; therefore we believe that it is vague what the Torah says about homosexual marriage.” The Torah is the first five books in the Jewish Bible. Spector has a very interesting view on Question 6, considering his religious background.

Lonaconing in a town packed away into the mountains of Allegany County, located about ten miles outside of Frostburg. Evan Frazee has been a lifelong resident of Lonaconing, and is now expanding his social life style by attending Frostburg State University. Frazee is a freshman here at Frostburg State University and had no problem talking about his beliefs involving Question 6. Frazee is for Question 6. He states “It’s their own personal choice who they marry, I have no hatred or disrespect for any homosexual or for the people who marry them.”
Frazee believes that “Churches should never be forced to marry anyone that they don’t want to; however a homosexual should never be forced to be unhappy by never marring the love of their life.” Evan was baptized at Lonaconing First Assembly of God, where he practiced religion for almost 12 years of his life. He states “I have very different views then the rest of my ministry at my Church.”

Aaron Webb, a student and member of United Campus Ministry's at Frostburg State University, is completely against Question 6. Webb grew up in Prince George's County and is studying history in the hopes of being a history teacher someday. He mentions almost immediately “I believe in Jesus Christ and the Bible says Men and Women should marry and no one else.”
Webb is a three year member with United Campus Ministry’s and has some very strong beliefs as to why Question 6 should not be voted for. “It’s the common sense of separation of Church and State, anyone who wants to come into my Church and tell us how to run things might as go to hell.” Feeling very heated by the topic he continues “That’s nasty, that’s not a family.” Webb continues to explain that his Church, From the Heart Ministries, has a constitution stated that even if Question 6 was passed, the government cannot force the Church to marry Homosexuals. Webb had absolutely no hesitation in explaining his views on Question 6, and hopes that Question 6 does get passed in the Election.
