Today is Election Day and people of all ages over the age of
18 are arriving at their assigned polling stations/places and casting their
votes for our future president. People are walking around campus with their ‘I
Voted’ stickers, and I asked a few people with and without those stickers who
they voted for and why they voted for that candidate.
Tanisha Holt, a sophomore from Baltimore, Md said that she
voted for Obama. She sent in her absentee ballot recently and voted strictly
Democrat. When asked what her main motivation was for voting for Obama (skin
color, ideals, and party) she said that his ideals and policies were her main
motivation.
Eugene Younger, a local senior from Cumberland, Md said that
he is a Democrat and he voted for Obama early this morning. When asked about
his opinions of the election, he said he felt that Obama was the clear choice.
Younger said that after watching the presidential debates, he felt that Obama
was telling the truth and actually cared about the outcome of our nation
opposed to Romney who lied multiple times and made himself seem more important
than what he actually is. He also said that he believes in Obama's ideals and
policies as well.
Jena Smith, a junior from Hagerstown, Md on the other hand
did not vote. She said that she did not have the time to register but that she
also did not feel like either candidate were truthful to the public. Even
though Smith did not trust either candidate, she said that if she would have
voted it would have been Romney. When asked why, she said that “Obama hasn’t done
any good over the last few years and I don’t see why he should be elected for
another 4.”
