Election Day Opinions: Same Sex Marriage
Election Day is a spirited day of politics and controversies that embodies it as the common people of America take to the Voter’s Booths to decide who’d take care of them as President of the United States. One could argue that Question 6: Legalizing Same Sex Marriage would be the most passionate question on the list. Public opinion is split, and since (at the time of writing) most people haven’t gone out to vote yet, some people are still undecided. When asked about gay marriage, sophomore Stephanie Taylor, 19, of Westernport replied “I am strongly against it as it can only lead to trouble with our already dysfunctional society.” For others, this makes or breaks their opinion of an aspiring new leader-and both Presidential Candidates are taking this into consideration. Take Jarred for example, a 20 year old senior who is Gay and hoping to get wider acceptance from the country at large. “I honestly believe that this year would be the year that we can see Maryland legalizing Same Sex Marriage. Hopefully it can be integrated without much fuss from Religious institutions.” Some people, however, have contradicting believes that transcend their religious believes. Amanda Gold (A 21 year old Senior from Baltimore, Maryland) comes from a family with a strong religious base-and even still she believes that “It would be ok because if two people love each other is should not matter.” Her friend, Bailey Kerr (20 year old Junior from Montgomery Village, Maryland) would agree with her on this “The Definition of Marriage should be changed with modern times-into Two Adults that love each other.” With that said and a 3-1 standing on Yes/No on the topic, we may very well see Question 6 passing on this Election Day-for the better or the worst.
