If you do not already know, Question 6 is up for big debate in Maryland. Known as a blue state, Maryland is having trouble deciding whether or not same-sex marriage should be legalized. If Question 6 passes, it will allow same-sex couples to obtain a civil marriage license.
Several students at Frostburg State University gave their opinions on Question 6. Junior, Art major Amy Sullivan, feels like "love is love and you shouldn't have to defend it." Her friend Katie Holmes, a sophomore Art major, said she voted for Question 6 because she thinks "everyone should have equal rights and marry who they want. I don't understand how people have the right to say who to marry."
If voting only on the basis of Question 6, it is clear cut which candidate is for or against same-sex marriage. President Obama formally endorsed same-sex marriage in May 2012. While Govenor Romney denounces the idea of same-sex marriage.
When asked about the Presidential candidates position on Question 6, John Sikalis a senior Accounting major, noted that "I do not agree with Romney that's for sure." Sikalis believes a president should not have the right to decide who one can and cannot marry. "I think it's a selfish decision."
Sikalis is certainly not alone on the thought that it is a selfish decision to ban same-sex marriage. Junior International Studies major, James Coppedge, is voting for Question 6 as he believes "everyone should be treated the same way under the law."
Either way you vote make sure you put your resources to good use. Read up on the candidates and the questions at hand. Make an educated decision.
