Kate: One Strong Woman

Getting to know Kate was very interesting. Kate Molander is a transfer senior here at Frostburg State University. Since she transferred, she has another year here. She attended the University of Akron her freshman year of college. She explained that she really liked it up there. “I loved it, it was just to far away from home for me.” It sucks that you can like a place so much and the distance makes you leave right? After that, she attended the Frederick Community College to figure out her next step in life. So why did she come to Frostburg? Frostburg was definitely closer to home and much more affordable. Kate is an early childhood education major. She wants to teach 3rd grade students. She stated, "It will be easier for me to catch a learning disability at that point than it would in the younger years. And 4th and 5th graders just start to get bratty." Some of Kate’s hobbies include swimming, knitting and baking. In the conversation, she said with a giggle of laughter “I bake, I can’t cook, but I bake.”

In the next five years Kate has a lot ahead of her. She plans to move down South; “I plan to start my big girl life” in her words. She plans to be already married and into her career. Speaking of relationships, Kate and her boyfriend Brad Zimmerman have been together for three years. After having a good conversation with her, their relationship is a very good one. They met back at home through a mutual friend. When she attended the University of Akron, Kate and Brad experienced what it was like to have a long distance relationship Through out this long distant relationship, they used Skype and talked on the phone of course; but overall, in Kate’s words “We survived!” That’s really all that matters in relationships. So what's next? Maybe a Mrs. Zimmerman?

Kate has traveled to many places. She once lived in Colorado in her early years. Her and her family travel a lot because her parents like to take her, her younger brother (18), and her younger sister (15) on “educational trips” to see the different sites. She has been to Canada, Mexico, and everywhere on the east coast. One of her ideal places to travel is the Caribbean’s, where the beaches are crystal clear.

Kate currently stays on campus and does not go home a lot. Maybe every few weeks she lets Myersville, MD (her hometown) see her face. One interesting thing about Kate is her tattoos. She has two of them. One of her tattoos is a cherry blossom. The other tattoo that I found very interesting is a breast cancer ribbon. This is a representation of her mother being a survivor of breast cancer. Go Kate’s Mom!

Through learning about Kate's relationship, her family and the basics of her life, I can say she is "One Strong Woman."

Below is a link that Kate referenced me is the bakery that she did work at.
