Emily D’atri: A Super Women

By Brandon Larkin, ENGL 336

“I want to be a publisher, editor, journalist, and maybe a teacher.” That was a quote from fourth year senior Emily D’atri. Emily was born in Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Maryland on August 18th, 1990. Locally, her last name is known very well, because her family owns a very popular chain of restaurants known simply as “D’arti’s”. Her father’s store is located on Colombia Ave. Even though her family name is well known she doesn’t mind “Everyone knows my family so people are generally a little nicer.”. Emily is a English major, who is currently taking 19 credit hours so she can graduate at the end of the semester. That is impressive to say the least. When asked about her major and how she choose it she simply responded by saying “I just kind of fell into it.”. She was just accepted into a internship with United Way. She will be doing a lot of writing and keep of documents for the company. She says “this is the first step in my career”. For the moment she lives in Cumberland with a roommate. She wants to stay in Cumberland for the time being but would like to eventually move away. “I would like to move to Baltimore or somewhere like that, far enough but not to far.”.

Emily is always doing something, she “never has like any free time”. When she is not in school, Emily is a server at a local restaurant in LaVale called Fratelli’s. Emily works around 30 hours a week. When she does manage to get free time, she transforms from a dainty young women to a outdoors lover. She snowboards, usually at the Wisp ( a ski resort in Garrett County), and sources reveal that she is quite good. Emily loves music as well, the genre doesn’t really matter to her, as long as its good she will listen to it. Along with music, Emily loves movies and anything with Ryan Gossling.

Emily has always been a traveler, it is a true passion of hers. She has been all over the world, places like Hawaii, Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand. Emily wants to travel the world when she gets older. After graduation she wants to either go backpacking across Europe or go one a cross country trip to the Colorado area. I asked Emily is she could have any super power what it would be? She responded with “I wish I could teleport, because then I could travel anywhere”. That statement shows how passionate she is about traveling and getting to see the world.

Emily is a head strong woman who has her goals set and on pace to not only reach them, but fly past them. She will do great things with her life.
