I'm a Nerd, So What: Aaron Blough
By: Elisia Daniels ENGL 336
Aaron Blough sat patiently while I gathered my notes and
prepared for the interview. He was dressed casually in jeans and a striped red
shirt. His calm approach radiated with such confidence, intellect, and passion.
I was eager to dissect the young man
before me to see who was really behind the glasses, which ever so lightly
hugged his face.
Aaron Blough, a 20 year old senior at Frostburg State
University, is an English major; whom will be graduating this May. As a soon to
be young graduate, Aaron did not believe that graduating at the age of 20 meant
he was rushing his youth. He just strives to learn whenever the opportunity
presents itself. “I’m a nerd,” he says. “I love the college experience…worth
the experience.” At Linganore High school where he attended in his hometown
Frederick, MD, he took a lot of AP courses. This definitely benefited him
entering Frostburg State University. Aaron had 30 credits under his belt coming
into his first semester at Frostburg. Nerd? No. Dedicated? Yes.
English has always been a huge passion of his for a very
long time. It was when he attended New
Market Middle School that his passion began. Aaron mentions an English teacher
that stuck out to him most during his middle school years. This teacher did not
teach him “How good do your T’s look,” as he explained his elementary years.
Instead, this teacher actually taught him how to write and read. It was a
moment that “sort of clicked.” He began to truly understand the meaning of
writing in regards to how authors interpret certain things.
Aside from his nerdy academic track, Aaron also has a more
relaxed and fun side to him as well. “I got a lot of different hobbies,” Aaron says. He has recently read the Game of Thrones books, which is now currently an HBO series. As described by Aaron, "Think like the 12th century English stuff.” Aaron also considers himself a gamer. He likes
trading card games and playing table top games. Table top games have to be his
most favorite thing to do because aside from screen games (computer/TV), table
top games gives you more interaction with people.
Aaron does have a younger brother by the age of 16. With Aaron's strong work ethics in graduating at an young age, his younger brother is right behind him. The only difference is that his brother is more of a calculus person. The complete opposite of Aaron. Upon graduation, Aaron wants to continue his education here at Frostburg State University by gaining his Master Degree in teaching, preferably high school English. If you want to meet and learn more about Aaron Blough, come out and meet the Gamers Club at Frostburg State University on Mondays at 6.
