On March 3, 2012, The Iota Phi
Theta held the Stroll Off Competition of 2012. With the music blasting while
walking in the Lane Center ARMAH helped bring a good vibe to people who came
out and supported. The set-up, with the different color lights, was also very
welcoming. Incorporated with their strolls, Alpha Phi Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, Phi
Beta Sigma, and Iota Phi Theta put on good performances with comedy, surprises,
dancing and much more to get the audience hype and involved. Each fraternity
had five to seven minutes to do their stroll off performance. There were two
rounds for the fraternities that participated to show not only the audience, but
also the judges what they had in store.
Alpha Phi Alpha started the show off,
followed by Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, and the last to perform was Iota Phi
Theta. Each fraternity seemed to work hard on both of their performances. Even
with a few mess-ups, the lack of space that they all seemed to inhibit, and
technical problems with the music, all of the fraternities pulled it together
in the end and gave great performances.
Having a chance to speak to some
of the audience before and after the show gave the vibe of how people thought
the show was going to carry along. Ashlee Williams, a sophomore studying Mass
Communications here at Frostburg State University, said before the show “I’m
excited to see what all of the frats are going to do.” She also said “I think
the Ques might win because they are always hype when it comes to performances.
Not saying that any other fraternity is not hype but the Ques always win”. The
Ques are known as the Omega Psi Phi.
It was announced at the end of the
show that the audience will not know who won the Stroll Off Competition until
the after party that was taking place later that night at 11 p.m. Talking to
Ashlee Williams again after the show, she changed her mind about who she think
will win the competition. “The Sigma’s definitely won that. They brought the
most hype in the crowd.” The Sigma’s are known as the Phi Beta Sigma. Asking
around, there were many opinions that surrounded that.
In the end, the Sigma’s did win
the stroll off of this year. It wasn’t established what they won but the title
of being the champions of this years stroll off. The overall Stroll Off
Competition of 2012 was a success. Many people came out to support some of the
fraternities here at Frostburg State University. The Lane Center ARMAH was full
of supporters, onlookers, and other fraternities and sororities from different
schools. It was a packed show and also a very impressive one to say the least.
