Well it seems like spring is
finally here. That means it is time for
seasonal festivities such as eggs, bunnies, and Easter. Easter Is a holiday
that’s meaning has almost been lost. I
say almost because on April 1 a Cumberland church Central Assembly of God held
a musical performance about Jesus’ resurrection. The performance consisted of characters from
the bible telling the audience how Jesus affected their lives. One performance told how Jesus healed a
cripple. Another told how he healed a man possessed with demons. The church was filled with church and non-church
members sitting in the dark watching the show.
“I actually don’t attend church here, but I have been coming to the
performance for about five years and it gets better each year.” Trisha blank
explained. The show included the
timeline of Jesus’ arrest from his crucifixion to his resurrection. The church did not seem to hold anything back
when it came to the scene of Jesus crucifixion.
First, the church became pitch black and a clip of Passion of the Christ
appeared. It was the scene where Jesus is whipped repeatedly and has a crown of
thorns put on his head. It was a very
graphic scene. A mother behind me had to cover her daughter’s eyes until the
scene ended. The church did a great job
of capturing the moment. The performance
concluded with Jesus coming back from the dead.
The real meaning of Easter the pastor explained afterwards is about the resurrection
not the Easter bunny. Heather Landis
who has been going to the church for years said, “My favorite scene was when he
rose again.” The show set a tone for
the upcoming Easter and it was enjoyable for everyone. One member Jon Davis summarized it the best
when asked what his favorite part was he simply replied “Jesus.” The show was spectacular and had great
performances by everyone.
