On Wednesday, December 07,2011 at 8:00 p.m aproximately 100 Frostburg State students gathered at the G.I.G house for one of the last Bible study sessions of the semester. G.I.G means Generation Investigating God. This group meets every Wednesday during the school semesters at 8:00p.m in the small white house behind the Cumberland dorm building.
The fellowship began with a variety of food for the students to choose from that was prepared by Pastor Ron and his wife, Terry Yost. On the menu were delicious green beans with onions, hotdogs, fruit salad, brownies, and a drink mix of lemonade and tea. Pastor Ron prayed over the food and then students sat and ate while socializing with fellow friends for about fifteen minutes until the call to worship.
During the call to worship, students flung to their feet to sing songs of praise after enjoying their meals. Music was lead by two femals singers, and a guitarist, pianist, and bassist. The drummer for the night was sasid to be needed elsewhere.
At the finish of the songs, Pastor Ron opened a power point slideshow that displayed the word "desire". He asked students what desire is. The overall consensus what that a desire is a wanting. Pastor Ron Yost asked students to reflect on what their desires are. The reason for the reflection is relative to the Christmas holiday is soon approaching. Pastor Ron wanted students to consider whether or not their desires were for God or of their own wantings.
Many comments were made as to what people desired. Some people desired success, money, to be free from stress, or even the perfect boyfriend or girlfriend. Student Linsy Ward commented her's to be one that permits her "to have good health." Most of the desires mentioned were ones that were said to be worldly desires (ones that please oneself). However, perhaps with a preview of the main idea presented Wednesday nifht, student Tony said that he desires to be "a servant of God."
Pastor Ron continued his powerpoint show with a biblical scripture, 1 John verses 15, 16, and 17. The scripture read:" Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave." To offer explanation of the meaning of the verse Pastor Ron stated that "We should all desire and strive to be our best. Our desires should be what God wants for us." and that we should say "Yes, Lord." to everything God asks of us.
The service began to close with prayer from Pastor Ron over the students of Frostburg State University, an open invitation to personal prayer by any leader of the church, and announcements for upcoming events. JHe announced that this Friday, December 09, 2011 that there will be a Christmas party at the G.I.G house, starting at seven o' clock. In addition to the party there will be Sunday service in Cumberland Maryland and transportation will be provided at the G.I.G house at 10:20a.m Sunday. Once the announcements ere finished, students closed out in another joyfull melody of praise, gathered their belongings and left the G.I.G house until next Wednesday.
